| Saving the life
of an animal that is about to be euthanized is an act of enormous mercy. Thousands of cats and dogs get stuck in animal shelters every year. You have to ask how anyone can discard these very special "people" who become our live-in "therapists" listening patiently, asking for no money and accepting food and shelter for payment? And yet, thousands of furry innocents end up on death row every year, many the result of abandonment due to foreclosures and sudden shifts in living arrangements. (Over 23,000 animals were euthanized in Los Angeles in 2009.) |
| There’s a humane answer: increase the limit (from 3 to) 5 indoor cats and 5 dogs for pet loving residents of Los Angeles. That’s the precise proposal LA City Council Public Safety Committee will be considering in 2011. If this proposal becomes an ordinance, thousands of cats and dogs could be saved each year. |
| But before this can happen city council members on the Public Safety Committee (see list below) need to hear from responsible pet owners and/or pet lovers as soon as possible. The committee members will then decide whether or not to send this proposal to the full City Council for a vote. |

If the proposal is approved by the City Council, the City Attorney’s office will then draft the final ordinance and will in the spirit of its name, City of the Angels, give the gift that keeps on giving – life – to the animals/our best therapists who would otherwise be euthanized.
